I am a life-long resident of Lawrence, Kansas, and grew up listening to our local radio stations. I knew the names of the shows and the broadcasters and learned that local radio operates as a nexus for the community it serves—where people, businesses, and agencies can come and share their stories, experiences, highlight their local products and services, and encourage and enlighten us all; and we become closer, more connected in a very positive way.
By using this broadcast media, we create a shared experience; we listen to each other’s voices, and in a very real way, we become a radio family. This is why I love being a part of our stations. Only on local radio can you find up-to-the-minute, detailed, locally focused weather reports during severe weather—as we say, when severe weather breaks out, we break in—and, thankfully, local emergency agencies and local residents are our partners during these events to keep you informed and safe.
